WTB and MVB analyzers
WTB and MVB bus analyzers are passive bus elements that listen for bus traffic and transmit it to the ethernet bus in UDP frames . A PC with a program for receiving and evaluating UDP frames is connected to the Ethernet bus.
The analyzer on the bus only listens; the analyzer is “invisible” to other devices. All types of WTB or MVB frameworks . A timestamp is added to each frame and then it is forwarded in a UDP frame on the Ethernet bus. In order to optimize the use of the Ethernet bus, multiple MVB or WTB frames can be stored in one UDP frame.
On the PC side, the Wireshark program is used , for which a plugin is supplied. Wireshark is a widespread open source software that has become the standard for network protocol analysis. Using this program with the supplied plugin, it is possible to display individual frames of TCN communication.
It is also possible to obtain some statistical information of the WTB or MVB line layer , e.g. the minimum and maximum gap between the master and slave frame. It is also possible to analyze protocols of higher layers (TCN PD and TCN MD protocol). With the TCN MD protocol, it is also possible to display the entire transmitted TCN messages ; in case of transmission of UIC E-Telegrams, it is possible to display the header of the E-Telegram, and in standard E-Telegrams, individual items as well. The user has the option to freely change or expand the supplied plugin. The user can, for example, add an analysis of his application protocol.
